Best Value AGP card question

Thread Starter
I'm looking to upgrade my agp video card since well i'm using a 9200 at the moment. I would like to know which video card would perform the best and at a good value. Looking for a price at the most $130. I was looking at the 7800gs but I heard it was not worth the little difference. Nvidia or ati doesn't matter to me

Thanks

I have the BFG 7800 GS OC on my older system (see sig). Its an excellent card and OC's very well. I think that is the best value. Some people will say 7600GT, but its very difficult to get. For the price range you want, the 7800GS cannot be beat.

Having said that, maybe its time to go PCI-E? I held out for a long time. Prices have really come down lately on mobos, GFX cards, memory etc. Its a very good time to buy (much better than it was a few months back when ram cost 2x).

What exactly do mean by "last another 2 years" ? Do you want it to continue to play your current apps/games OR do you mean that you want to be able to play the latest games for the next 2 years.

If its the former (playing your current apps/games), then I'd suggest the 7800GS. It has SM3.0, DDR3. I've used it to play games such as F.E.A.R successfully (on my old rig). For the price you're asking, the other option may be a X1600PRO (512MB) or X1650 512MB, for about $130, but they're both 128-bit wide memory busses (compared to the 256-bit for the 7800 or ATI 1950PRO).

i think the 7800 GS and the ATI 1950PRO would suit your needs best if you want to play "recent" games.

Now, if you want to play _new_ games for the next 2 years, I'd suggest a whole new build. Hope that helps.

I would only go with a Nvidia 7800GS or a 7600GT, speaking from experience with both of these cards. 7600GT can play CS:S on mid-settings at a decent resolution with some features turned on.

I would go with the Nvidia 7800 GS OC. I have it and I think that for AGP there isn't much that can beat it. I don't know what you mean by small difference, because I feel the 7800 is quite a lot better than older graphics cards. I to was in your situation about wanting to keep my computer for a little while longer but if I had more money I would upgrade to a PCI-E computer.
