Watts to cool, anyone know how this is figured

Just say if I were to overclock the quad to 4300 CPU wattage is 336,
Now is 336Watts what I need to cool?

Overclocked CPU speed (MHz) 4300
Overclocked Vcore (V) 1.58
Overclocked CPU Wattage: 336

I want total control of my temps by a turn of a knob
I'm still just thinking of getting a good water chiller one I'm looking at does 410watts at 0C.

Watts dont directly equate to temperature. Just a rough number.

If you need to get rid of 336 watts from a loop and you have a chiller that provides 410 watts of cooling, then it probably is. Is 410 watts the power it draws, or the cooling it provides?

Ira has a 3xxW pelt in his loop and is getting -1C idle and 13C load. He "only" has an Opty, though.

I'd say 410W would be enough.

The thermal output of the processor is not the same as the power draw. Only some of the power is lost as heat. However, the amount of watts of heat it puts out...if you cool only that much you will get your ambient temperature. (most GOOD water cooling can do this)
However, if you go above and beyond, you're getting into areas where you must insulate against condensation (below dew point).

A peltier, waterchiller, or phase change unit, will cool much more heat than you're outputting therefore going below ambient.

It's enough if the unit is providing 410 watts of cooling, if the unit draws 410 watts from the wall you have to take efficiency into account as well as other things,and 410 watts of cooling isn't guaranteed at that point.

even so, like sideburns said, the cpu is not putting out 358 watts of heat, so both the inefficiencies can be canceled out.

Usually a cooling system is rated at how many watts it cools though, not by the draw. So it takes into account the inefficiencies. Hope this makes sense.
