Intel System

Hey, I fryed my AMD rig a while back and I'm looking for a new rig. I have a Power Supply, Case, Fans, Hard Drive, CD-Rom Drive, and all of the external stuff I need like a Monitor, Mouse, and Keyboard. All I need is a new Motherboard, Processor, and Ram. I need to work for my Dad over the summer to help pay for the system, so, nothing like a QX6800 and an 8800GTX. I'm thinking of getting:

-2x1GB of G. Skill DDR2-800 Ram
-Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor
-Intel Bad Axe 2 975X Motherboard

That will run me about $700 shipped. Later on, I'm thinking of getting a Sound Card, a Printer, and maybe an 8800GTX. For $700 could I purchase anything better? I have an X800XL, which cannot run much, but, I do not game that much either so that's not a problem.

Oh, and I lost the Socket LGA775 Mounting Bracets on my Thermaltake Big Typhoon so I'm thinking of getting a Tuniq Tower 120. I will not overclock my processor, just run everything in a 1:1 (400FSB).

Pretty much that is what I would recommend. Definitely the XBX2 as it is the best motherboard on the market IMO. However, the QuadGT (also a good motherboard) can be had for $129.99. Really, because of the new motherboard releases coming up, I wouldn't put the $250 required in the XBX2. Pick up the QuadGT for about $100 less.

I would get one of the E6300 or E6400 with the 4MB L2 cache. Seems like a better deal to me.

Also, check Tankguys as they have a great deal on Team Group memory.

Tuniq is a great choice.

I run my Xeon 3060 at 3.0Ghz and 1333Mhz FSB. Not because it can't do more, but because I really don't need more.

Edit: Get the Tuniq from Performance-Pcs.com, it is about $15 cheaper than newegg.com

The E6600 is an excellent choice imo, and since your not overclocking, the Tuniq Tower will be perfect. Later on when quad core and better is "in" and you want a performance boost and decide to overclock, the E6600 will get you to where you want to be with no problem, and you can upgrade to a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU cooler to ensure a stable setup.

Screw the badaxe, get the P5B-Plus: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131177

And a Tuniq Tower 120: http://www.svc.com/tuniq.html

$139+$52= E6600 to more than 3.0ghz, easy.

I think I'll keep the E6600 and Bad Axe 2, I'm not on a super-tight budget, I mean I can spend up to $1,000 but I'd rather not have it cost $1,500 once it's at my door. The E6600 can overclock better and is more stable, I'm also thinking of getting the 3060 Xeon because of it's stablitiy and purer silicon composition. The ram I'm getting is also $100 per 2GB so I might even get 4GB and get a copy of x64 Windows XP: Professional.

I got a Xeon 3060 if you are interested? Maybe you want my memory too?

I wouldn't get Window XP 64 bit. Not a very good OS IMHO. Go with 64bit Vista.

4GB is good.

How much for the Intel Xeon 3060 Conroe? Also, I'm thinking of getting G. Skill memory just because it's so cheap.

So, I'm looking at:

-Intel 3060 Xeon Processor
-2GB of G. Skill DDR2-800 Ram
-Intel Bad Axe 2 (975X) Motherboard

Which would be around $700 shipped... Then get 64-Bit Vista, 4GB of Ram, and a DirectX 10 Graphics Card?

Why the Bad axe? Get a P5B deluxe or a P5k if you can find one.
