Tearing and Vsync - WTF?

Thread Starter
Ok heres another thread for it, most of what I play has tearing and if I put Vsync on it cuts down to 60FPS max and the tearing stops and I've already gone through two 19'' monitors at 8ms and 2ms and its still present.

I emailed eVGA and they said its just a matter of physics but when I had my crap-ass 6600GT I would be able to exceed 60 FPS in some instances with no tearing whatsoever.

Is my card crapping out? Is there anything else that can affect visual output like my RAM or CPU??

*** is going on?!

I'm sorry but I should be running around in WoW at 100+ FPS with everything at max without any problems, this entire computer project of mine has been a failure.

I get stutters in wow on this build in towns and raids and I didn't on my previous build that was alot slower.

Trying forcing vsync in the nvidia control panel.

Vsync is going to cap your FPS at your monitors refresh rate, so for 90% of LCD thats 60FPS.

Dont be so hard on yourself. First off put your card to stock clocks then if that dosent work try different drivers.

when using vsync, it will cap at 60fps at all the time, you can't get it over that. I prefer to have it running smooth rather than tearing. it's up to you.

Can you guys seriously tell the difference between 60FPS and 100FPS? Cause I can't. As far as I know the human eye is only capable of seeing around 60FPS on average.

It gets hard to tell after 30...

i agree, pointless trying to get higher FPS (only in benchmarks score result it would be useful)

True, and as always OCN has the fastest and most helpful posts

Anyway I have the most up to date drivers and the 8800GTX is at stock, I like it smooth but I was in Shattrath in WoW and the FPS was actually dropping below 60.

I wonder if its an issue with WoW itself or what. Because in CoD2 and BF2 absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I just wanna know if my card is somehow too fast? lol

I'm using Vsync and Triple Buffering because I want smooth stability.

Anyone else have any other thoughts?

That's a CPU limit. My sig rig gets 50-60 FPS in Shattrath IIRC. I'll check when I get home
