Which Board?

Thread Starter
Ok, I have decided to get a conroe. (E6600). I am going to be running a vapochill phase change system, but can't decide on a board. I am stuck between

Asus P5b deluxe
p5n-ESLI
Abit Fatal1ty

Normally I would go with the fatal1ty, as it is a decent overclocker with support for sli + its good value. But I really don't want Fagtal1tys name plastered all over my board. So I'm stuck between the three. Which one do you think I should get?

I would go with the P5N-E since its the chipset as the Abit but from the reviews ive read, the Asus is the better overclocker. Plus you dont get Fatal1ty plastered over the board.

Generally the only reason to consider a Abit Fatal1ty board is if you want his name in your system - otherwise, I'd go with a 680i based board, such as the Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe or the eVGA 680i.

I'd seriously consider the DFI P965-S if SLI isn't a must. It's just hard to find in stock anywhere. It's inexpensive and has proven to compete directly with the ASUS Commando. (590+ FSB over at XS) It's definitely a DFI though, it has a small potential to hate a PSU but I've run three different ones on it and it worked on them all. (Antec NeoHE 500w, Silencer 610W and OCZ GXE 700W) It also is typical of a DFI, it takes a bit more work than other boards but you just plain get better numbers for it if you put in the time. As it looks like a benching rig you're building, it might be right up your alley.

Other than that, P5B or P5N E SLI. Though pricy the DFI 680LT is supposed to be a great clocker according to the extreme segment of rumors. It's a bit early to tell for sure though. I'd stick with what you know with the nVidia chipsets.

I'm quite happy with my Asus P5B mobo with E6600 conroe. Can't say much about the other options. Good luck on your project.
