Leaving AMD for Mac

Thread Starter
I have thought about it for a while and I will probably be selling my AMD system (in sig) to get a secondhand Power Mac G5. I've been a PC enthusiast for life but my priorities have changed. This isn't a for sale thread, but I'm looking for some advice. For those of you who have sold systems, is it better to sell each piece separately or as a complete system? What kind of G5 system do you think is equivalent in value to mine? I'm going to be using it as a DAW and not for gaming.

i would say you would be better off selling it piece by piece, but that is just me

Yes, lots of people are selling as whole systems on eBay so it is unlikely to get as much money as parting it out. Plus then you don't have to worry about support for them when they **** it up.

For a mac system, see if you can squeeze the new C2D into your budget, they are much better. I myself own a mini mac with C2D and am loving it.

I agree sell them separately,

Also the G5 macs have a real shortcoming FSB, and that's holding them back.

A core 2 duo Imac would win off a g5 (powermac G5 vs. Imac C2d)

I also agree with parting the PC out. I sold my P4 System's parts on e-bay a couple of years ago and I ended up making more that somebody selling a full system. Be careful of those e-bay scammers though, they're everywhere.

there are ways to get a random bid from some rich person who wants a big e-peen

put "ZOMG, Gaming, OVERCLOK, " in title, and a few cathodes and now its worth $500 more according to this guy.

Part it out for sure. You won't get nearly as much if you sell the system as a whole. Enthusists would not need to buy whole systems. Therefore, people buying whole systems on eBay tend to be less informed and no little about what componets are that make up your system.

Selling the whole system would probably be quicker and easier since you are getting rid of the whole thing in one shot. but you may get less money. Parting it out would most likely take longer, but the amount of money you get may be worthwhile.

So it's a personal call whether if money or time is more important to you.

Get an Intel Mac since they have more software support and let you run Windows on them.
