eVga 8800 Ultra The Black Pearl - Page 5

Come on coggy, do you think XFX would have sent samples of this card to reviewers who would evaluate them in a totally objective way???

Do you think there may be some interplay between freebies and what they write??

It's all PR, hype, call it what you will.

I want to see what this card will do in the hands of the everyday user..

Not that you're everyday of course.

But that kind of cash for those kinds of clocks???

BTW, my gtx's...

Like the article she posted, VALUE is relative to the payer. To most the Ultra is just way overpriced... then there are some who like to play with the newest of gadgets.

Take the iPhone for $$$.$$, it makes calls like a cell, plays mp3 like an iPod. Why don't the buyers just stick to their current cellphone and iPod then?

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree and I'm as sceptical as you are of these reviews, however the fact remains that out of the box it's substantially faster than an overclocked GTX let alone a STD GTX.

I agree with you on seeing what it does in the hands of an average joe/josephine like ourselves.

I can't see the 8900 series or whatever supercedes the current 8800's coming out this year, if they do it will be for Christmas.

I also admit the Ultra is certainly no massive leap over the GTXs and other cards in the 8800 range but that makes sense as they produced pretty much leading edge cards there and to come up with something better already is no simple task.

Typically, it's in the fall. If I remember correctly, I bought my 1st 8800 in early October of last year. They are usually rolled out right B4 you guessed it, Christmas...

Well thats not a long wait I guess, can anyone confirm if the sucessor to the 8800 is even rumoured to be released in the fall?

If thats the case I may ATI (wait) for them to come out.

There will be a few nicely priced CPUs by then too.
