Burning Router Adapter

Thread Starter
Well, i have a burning router adapter that has to be turned on 24/7. I placed an old P3 heatsink on it with some thermal paste and ducktape and it really manages the heat well. Is there any other thing i can use instead of duck tape? Seems pretty low tech. Does anyone have the same problem?

You mean no one gets this problem? Where i'm at, the outside temperature can reach 35C(94F). It's on of the earliest routers, as it when wireless b routers first came out, i got one.

Hrm my adaptor gets warm, but not HOT as in too hot to touch if thats what you mean? The adaptors are meant to get warm because of the coils in the transformer. This is normal. If the adaptor gets too hot to touch for any length of time then it suggests that the adaptor is faulty.

Thermal adhesive or thermal tape would do. Arctic Silver sells thermal adhesive which is epoxy with AS5 mixed in. It is STRONG stuff.

Seriously, mine burns, as in it hurts when held on for 5 seconds. Ever since i bought it. I know others with the same problem as they also turn on theirs 24/7. Which is easier to remove? Thermal tape or adhesive? How much in US$ do they cost?

Thermal adhesive is permanent. It should cost less than $5. Thermal tape is a bit harder to find but is removable (but not as thermally conductive).

Mine runs 24/7 and feels warm to the touch. Ive thought about opening it up and modding it, but it's done fine so far.

My router is way past its warranty and may be getting a wireless b or n sometime next year, so i'll use some thermal adhesive. Thanks very much.
