Computer Shutdowns

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, i have a AMD X2 3800 and it just turns off randomly.... Ill be playing a game....or even sitting at my desktop, and it will randomly shutoff. Im using XP Pro 64-bit, because for some odd reason i try to install x86 and it gives me a BSOD. Now i have a 400watt PSU i believe, and i think that might give me troubles, but im not sure. Any other explanations on why this could be happening? Its very annoying when im playing a game and it just dies

Those cheap psus are more trouble than their worth, which isn't much anyway.

Other possible causes-
bad mount
bad oc
incorrect pci seating
bad ram

I let memtest pass twice, and both times without error. So, i dont think its memory.

well now it goes in this order:

bad os (somethings jacked up or mis configured)
bad PSU ( is it cool max or house brand)
hardware imcompatibility with x64 windows
bad drivers ( probably not)
bad ambient temperature (can you verify those temps)
virus (most likely not)

Well the first BSOD it was saying that i needed to press F7 to load different drivers to fix a ACPI thing? not exactly sure tho... Second one was after i did this, and it said the drivers would not work

The PSU is a cheapo, and i think its only a 400 watt.... I just had the cp turn off twice in a row on me...so i wasnt impressed. I dont believe it is the OS. I hope not, its the only copy i have and my 32-bit copy wont install I just turned of NVidias firewall, thinking maybe it was that. Havent had problems yet, but generally the shutoffs are random. And the Ambient temp right now says 79Far and CPUTemp is reading 31-35. The drivers i used were downloaded off of the Asus website for this mobo. So they should be up to date and for 64-bit. Im also using NOD32 for antivirus, and its never gone bad on me and let anything in Sooo, maybe it is the PSU?

its either a bad psu
or
a bad mobo
or
very unlikely bad OS

i had a msi k8n neo4 platnium that kept shutting down randomly, but when i swiched boards to gigabyte, and no oher components, it was 100 % stable. it wasn't even over clocked.

you should probably test your psu if you have a psu tester. but if you have a spare one laying around or someone may let you borrow one, then you can test if its your psu before buying a new one. first general thought would be your psu. if its cheapo then most likely your psu
