Cleaned computer - now it wont POST :-(

Thread Starter
Hey all ..

Decided to clean out a fairly new computer (see specs below) .. basic stuff, taking dirt off the fans, putting ties around the cables, etc .. I did unplug almost everything from the motherboard (the hd, dvdr, video card, and ram).
Really didnt touch much of anything else though.

Now I turn it on, and nothing .. it wont post ... all the devices are getting power, but im just sitting at a 'no signal' on my monitor. Nothing is overclocked, this is all stock. This was 100% fine yesterday, and I made no changes to it.

Any ideas ... ??

coolermaster centurion w ocz tech 520w power
huge heatpipe/fan (dont know which, but its a coolermaster fan)
rear fan 120mm/ front fan .. etc ...

Please help me :-)

take out the video card and plug it back in. this happens to me when i transport my computer over to a friends house and that is how i fixed it.

do you get an error code?

check all power cords. like the one 4 pin to the MOBO and make sure there plugged in.

Hey Endo ..

Thanx for the tip .. I had already tried that as a solution, but gave it another shot.

Unfortunatly, that wasnt it ... I have no beeps from the internal speaker to indicate anything is wrong. Everything is recieving power, and plugged in correctly. The 4 pin mb plug is indeed secure as well.

This is insane .. Nothing has changed .. why in the world will it refuse to post ? Everything is brand new.

Im really upset here .. hopefully someone else can recommend something soon, as Im working with it right now.

Ty in advance next poster

The fans spin when you try to turn the pc on?

Time to play detective

remove all unneeded (like hdd, soundcards) to rule out possible defects.

take your ram out, put back in (start with just one if you have two)

And like Endo said: reseat your videocard.

The light goes on on my mb .. all the fans (power supply, front, rear, video card, cpu) power on fine. Cant be a power problem I dont think.

I have no sound card, using mb built in sound. Only the 1 hard drive installed.

Will try the video card one more time, and the ram again.

Will update in a bit. Ty so far !

instead of unplug everything and reseat it, its best to remove all componenets. i dont' mean take out the mobo and psu and drives, i mean unplug all cables, power, signal cables, etc, and peherpials. make sure the psu is unplugged from the outlet. i usually go get a snack and come back. give it like 5 minutes, then reassembly everythign as if you are assemblying a new computer.

if it doens't work, try only the needed components, like only have the psu connected to the mobo, unplug all components from the mobo (optical devices, harddrives, all cards (use onboard video if you have it) . have the cpu and ram in, and only have the keyboard, video and power connected to your comptuer all else is unnecessary: harddrives, cd roms, lights. as it will post with out harddrive connected or etc.

still not working? from there try swapping out components, right now only thing you can swap out is the video card (if you have one), and the ram. reset the cmos. but if it still doens't work from here, your mobo is dead. you probably put some static discharge into it while maintainencing it.

I find the best thing to do when I run into a no POST issue is to start over. Take all components out and re-install them.

By any chance did you take the processor heatsink off when you cleaned it? Perhaps you reinstalled it wrong?

ya did you make sure that the PSU was atleast turned off (but preferably unplugged) when you reseated the vid card. did you make sure you grounded yourself before messing with any of the components.
