I am building a brisbane 3600 x2 with a tforce 550. I was wondering if this cooler works with AM2??

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...835118223#spec

Also Should I lap it? I have never lapped before but want to try! I am trying to hit 3.0Ghz
post #2 of 12
Doesn't look like it will work with it.
Go with this one:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118004
It will work with AM2 is you are wanting that kind of cooler.

Shouldn't need to lap it. I know the one I linked to has a mirror finish, since its the one that I have.
Or you can get the 9700, which is suppose to be alittle better, but cost alittle more.

So the cooler in my first post would work??
The metal brackets for the one you linked don't look right to me. But it could work with it.

I've only gotten mine to like 2.63. Could never get it any further, but all I did was mess with the FSB, never tweaked anything else. Then just haven't had time to play with it anymore.

That's why I got the 3600 brisbane, I heard they O.C. like mad!
Yea, seen people getting them to 3 ghz.
Was thinking about selling my 4600+ and getting a brisbane, for higher overclock, and the 65nm for less heat, but people on here said I was crazy to go to a slower chip.

Um, no.

AM2 is not the same as the old Socket 940. They may share the number of pins for the socket, but other than that they are emphatically not the same. CPU-Z is only reporting that AM2 has 940 pins, not that AM2 and S940 are the same.

However, as to the question of whether or not their cooler retention modules are the same, I don't think they are. AM2 is newer than Socket 939, while S940 is older.

The Zalman CNPS9500 LED is not AM2-compatible; the CNPS9500 AM2, though, is.

Hope this helps!
