Quick question about SATA and P5B-D

Thread Starter
Just got my new rig setup a week ago and was wondering about those black and red SATA ports. I want to know, does it matter where I put my optical drive and SATA HDD? At the moment, I have both connected to the red ports. Should I move the optical drive to the black port? I know the red is for boot disk and the black is for data disk but seems unclear for optical drives. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.

The setup is like this:

SATA 1/2/5/6 - Red - Master - Boot disk
SATA 3/4 - Black- Slave - Data Disk

Is that what you meant?

I think that the only other stipulations are for a RAID array...

The information is on pages 2-27 and 2-28 of the manual.

Yeah that's what I meant. I know it's for raid but will change anything if I put my optical drive in the black port instead of the red port? Basically looking for the best setup.

Honestly, I do not know...

..sorry. You could call Asus, or open up a help ticket on their website.

I have always had a good experience with their customer service...not Great, but certainly adequate.

Good luck.
