Dfi P965-s

Thread Starter
Wanting to jump to this board from my P5N32-E. I'm curious about 3 things.

1. What kind of luck have you had with quads. I'm selling lots of stuff to buy one quiet soon.

2. Does it need NB/SB cooling? I have my water right now but just curious if it was needed.

3. I have the VRM coolers from swiftech, would they be useful here as well?

Thanks

I've heard they're like DFI's... needs nothing extra, extreme overclocking out of the box

I used the stock NB cooler (I lapped it and used some as5) and it did just fine for up to 500fsb, I am now using a extremem spirit 2 and it keeps temps at 33c or lower depending on ambient. I have not cooled the pwms at all so they are still bear (one of these days I will cool them).

This board seems to do 500fsb very easily but not sure about the quad core. There is a sound that is emited when using a full ram load like orthos blend that some people find really annoying. Its not that bad on mine and rarely noticable so it doesnt bother me.

The board as with most dfi boards is really picky with psu's but I know the antec true power trio 50W works flawlessly with this thing.

The only thing I would consider if your going quad is checking out the p35 chips et like the asus p35 vanilla board, its about the same price and is suppose to be the next 965 for ocing. Just an idea since they are the same price

Indeed I've personally tried the PC P&C 610w silencer/OCZ GXE 700w/Antec NeoHE 500w and they all work on it.

Are those on Newegg just yet? I'm looking but can't find one. I'm just board with my 680i and want to try something new out. I wont be using SLI any time soon anyway.

Its just a idea for ya, the dfi is a good baord its just got some quirks like all dfi boards but it oc's like crazy atleast for dual core.

Yeah I think if I get one I'm gonna go with the P5K Deluxe with DDR2.
