Would this be a good CPU? AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz. Yes it is a 939 board.

The fact that its a dual core its already a bigger improvement, from what i've learnt, opterons r amd's ftw, but then again depends on how much u rly wanna spend. Mostly It depends on its clock speed, 2.0Ghz isn't bad, you can get that cpu going on 2.6Ghz easy with ur ram.

@ OP - don't bother with S939 - if i were you i'd go Core 2 Duo, with a new mobo and 2 GB of DDRII ram, you can pick up a complete C2D upgrade for around 1.5x the price of a 165 if you sell your old kit

I may have a x2 3800+ going on sale later this week.... It should be able to do 2.6GHz at 1.5v on air.

Upgrade to 680i and a E6600 and you'll have a screaming rig that'll last you at least 2+ months (at the current technology trend).

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the replies. Ok so now another question. What would be the best motherboard and CPU I can get for the cheapest price. I have 3 gigs of DDR ram so I would like to use that in the new system. I just want something that will allow me to get the framerates I know this card is capable of.

Thanks

Jason

E6600 for CPU, I'd go with a 680i motherboard but thats just me. I like my evga 680i.

I don't believe there is any Conroe capable board that support standard DDR.. I might be wrong, but you might have to get some DDR2 ram. I highly recommend DDR2 even if there is a board that supports DDR1.

DDR1 is outdated, and I wouldn't recommend using it on a E6600 and 8800GTX. Get some nice DDR2 800 ram.
