Asus P5N32 E SLI + e6600 cant get over 3ghz?

Thread Starter
Iv read the first 18 pages of the guide to clock this board and cant find much on voltage settings for the motherboard.

I have all settings at auto other than the vcore at 1.4 and CPU VTT at 1.52v

My memory is at 950hmz and is rated at 1000mhz but I have it a 4.4.4.10 1T and slightly under volted. Its the Ocz Titanium VX2 pc2 8000, 2.35v mine is a 2.27v.

My PC runs stable at 3ghz but just wont boot at 3.2ghz, instant BSOD.
I have put a Akasa 40mm fan direct onto the NB and have a well ventalated case. The cpu is water cooled.

Anyone got any Idears?

Its more than likely your memory timings, those are pretty tight timings for running at that speed, I would relax them a bit, and then see if she will boot into windows. Also maybe bump your ram voltage up like .1

I put the memory down to 900mhz, 5.5.5.15 @ 2.250v. Again got BSOF.

Do you have to set the NB and SB vcore up manualy?

I set things up like this.

360 x 9.
vcore 1.4v
CPU VTT 1.55v
memory unlinked: 900mhz, 5.5.5.15 @ 2.250v.
All the remended settings to be turned off in the guide are off.
CPU 34C, CPU 1 Idle 29c CPU 2 Idle 29c (Everest)
MB 36c

-------------

Tryed 412 x 6 and boots no problem, the memory is still at 4.4.4.10 - 2.27v.
So there isnt a FSB problem or memory.

Next il try 412 x 8 with vcore :1.4v.
==========================

412 x 8 boots and so far hasnt crashed so it looks like so far I cant go x9 too far.
CPUz showing 3.3ghz, 36c idle for cpu and MB.

@ zelavon.

Thanks but that is the guide iv been through, well upto 18th page.

Set you mem voltage to 2.35 according to the specs. Auto settings undervolt the OCZ mem. I would also raise the voltage on the NB to 1.35 or 1.40, set the SB to 1.50.. Unlink the mem and run it at 800 until you max out on the FSB on the CPU. Leave timings for mem on auto til you're ready to clock the mem. After you get a stable OC on the CPU, then clock the mem seperate.

Il try in that order. I had not left my memory on auto, it was set to 1.250.
I have a 480w with 1 12v rail. the lowest it goes is 11.65w but normaly at 11.71w.

Im getting half way through 3DMARK05 untill the cpu tests then the pc restarts.

Use orthos to test for stability, run coretemp to keep an eye on temps while stressing the cpu

Well, I restarted the pc took my memory down and after every try to boot in just would not go into windows, After 6 tryes with different settings I then loaded my old settings to find that windows still didnt boot.

My windows got corupt after so many restarts.

I dont know if I dare risk it.

I never get any luck with good steppings, or somthink on my systems that prevent me to get a good clocker. I feel very dissopointed so far.

If it don't boot you can hit F5 in Bios and return to default settings, save it and see if it boots back into windows. Then start over on the overclock. The settings I mentioned earlier for NB and SB should be good just have to raise the voltage on the vcore to get it up to 3.0 and higher. Depending on how high you want to go on the the OC, you may have to raise the NB a little more to keep it stable. Also set the VTT to max, it's been told on here that setting VTT to max 1.55 won't cause any temps to go up, it just helps keep the OC stable at high clocks.

For my OC of 3.42Ghz @ 380x9, I'm running a Vcore of 1.53125V but that voltage is different on different PC's. I've seen ppl get higher overclocks on less voltage than I'm running. My CPU is a little volt hungry. You really got to watch the full load temps when you run that much voltage to the CPU. I see you have a water block so it shouldn't be that much of a problem for you.

Go back to where you had your last known stable OC and start raising the FSB a little at a time. run Orthos to test for stability and watch the temps. if it errors out, raise the Vcore voltage a notch or two and try orthos again. keep raising vcore until you get stable. Always watch the temps on it while checking for stability.

You only have a 480W power supply with a 7950 gx2 gpu? One thing I have noticed about this board is that 12v ripple (from cheap power supplies) causes instability at anything other than stock. With what you are running, as you push more voltage into the cpu, it draws more off the 12v rail (of which you have one) which is also powering your graphics card.

It is most likely that your power supply is being overstressed.
