I voted 640 because I just ordered one about ten minutes ago...

The 8900's from what I've seen may be nothing more than a clock increase, infact according to the roadmaps the 8900GT which will be the equivalent of the GTS640 will come with less memory, 512mb. I want to have the option to upgrade or not depending on how much of an improvement there is in the 8900. If it is less than 10% I will wait until R650/G90. By the time the 8900's come out the used price for a GTS may drop down as low as $200, I recently saw a PNY go for $220 shipped.

if the current road maps hold true the next line up for the 8900 will be this

8900GTX (128shaders, 768mb DDR4, 384bit, 700/2200)

8900GTS (128shaders, 640mb DDR3, 320bit, 650/2000)

8900GT (96shaders, 512mb DDR3, 256bit, 600/1800)

8900GS (96shaders, 512mb DDR3, 256bit, 575/1600)

now lets mix in the 8800 line up for preformance

8900 GTX
8800 Ultra
8800 GTX
8900 GTS
8800 GTS
8900 GT
8800 GTS 320
8900 GS
8600 GTS
8600 GT
8500 GT

At least I feel comfortable with my purchase given the numbers we have at the moment.

I really wanted ATI to at least catch up with the R600 series, which is funny because historically I am an NV fan, and I've owned way more Nvidia cards than ATI. After I found those 2600xt benches that was the final straw for me. I got a chance to aquire this 8800gts for stupid cheap so I took it, if ATI makes the architecture changes that they are claiming then maybe they will win me back on the R650.

We don't even know if the 8900 is going to come out in the next three months and if it doesn't, then you're screwed...

The 640mb version is by far the better card especially in the long run with next gen games requiring higher texture memory but I am sure I am only repeating what others have said so go buy it already!

Huh?

I said even if it does come out in the next three months, I still may not upgrade if there is not enough performance increase. Plus I can get an 8900 faster for the same amount of $ by just selling my card on ebay and buying one since evga charges full retail on step-ups. Like I said, it depends on price, performance, and release date.

Not to mention which, if it is released in the next three months it probably wont be that big of a refresh. The card that will be released in my price bracket is possibly going to be a worse performer than my card anyways, I'd be a moron to go to all that hassle just to have a "9" in the name of my video card
