x1650 question here!

hey there!

new member here and quite confused with dual video cards setups!

my room mate got a new pc with two sapphire x1650 (NOT PRO and NOT XT), how can one know that they do work in crossfire mode? I mean on the sapphire website, no mention for crossfire support for the regular x1650 but in the catalyst panel it can be enabled. And there's no mention of 1gb of video ram anywhere. Are we to assume that if it can be enabled then it means that it works? I saw in a thread here that any x16xx videocards can run in crossfire. But the lack of knowledge in this matter added to the lack of information on sapphire's website forces me to ask you this! thanks for your help!

I believe the x1650 have the internal crossfire bridges that connect the cards together. As long as those are on and you have crossfire enabled, then it should be working.

ok so if there's no internal nor external bridges, I could assume that the ebay seller is trying to screw me over? lol

from what I've read up till now, on ati's crossfire website, the x1650 is not supported for crossfire, on sapphire website the x1650 pro, xt and ultimate xt have crossfire support

okay so as it is, two sapphire ati radeon x1650 ''basic'' don't work in crossfire right?

I emailed the ebay seller, and the reply I got is

'' Are you able to enable the crossfire option in ati catalyst control panel? ''

And I can do that, but when I check for information, all I see everywhere is like

radeon x1650
radeon x1650 secondary

and there's no mention anywhere of 1gb of video ram.. only 512 meg..

The Northbridge is designed on crossfire MOBO's to link / crossfire the two GPU's. The ATI Software will need to be enabled. If you do not have a Crossfire MOBO, you cannot run two GPU's in Crossfire.
