Boot Disk Failure

Thread Starter
I recently posted a thread about a NTLDR error. I fixed that error by manually puttind the NTLDR and ndetect.com files on the hard drive. Now I am getting the error BOOT DISK FAILURE. It will not allow me to boot from the CD i have tried multiple CDs. I have tried 4 different CD-Roms and I have tried putting the hard drive in a different computer to install Windows Xp Pro and it will not boot from the CD. Jumpers were set correctly and so were all the cables

Go into your BIOS and change the order of which the system boots the disc. I had the same problem when i build my sig rig below. The BIOS had set the initial boot to the 3.5 inch floppy drive first. I just changed it to the D: drive CD and presto...windows vista...or what ever you're trying to boot.

I did change the BIOS to booting from the CD-Rom first and got the same error. On my computer it is for some reason reading that there is a floppy attached when there isn't. There isn't even a cable attached. I even cleard my CMOS and it still read that. But, yea, even with the CD-Rom first it does not boot from the CD

boot disk failure means that your HDD is dead my friend.or just experiencing a lot of reading errors for some reason.

Wait, so mebbe I misunderstood you but I wanna make sure this is clear. You've tried to boot from a cd, that failed on 2 different machines. If you can use either of the CD-Rom drives normally, then that may indicate a bad CD.

I hope I understood you.
~Mav

EDIT: Can you boot normally?

Yea you understood me. But i have tried 2 different CD's and they work when i test them in other machines. Also, the HDD works fine as a slave in my brothers computer. I use his computer for all my testing.

'boot disk error' reffers to his master HDD not his CD!!!!

Again. I was making sure I understood him.

Does the hard drive work fine when used as master in any computer?

It did work as a master then i got an error that said something was preventing microsoft from accurately checking the license. So thats when i tried reformatting and kept getting all these errors
post #10 of 53
So, right now, when it's set up as master it gives you those errors (and doesn't boot up) and doesn't boot from CD-Rom, even though in the BIOS you set up the CD-Rom as the first bootable device.

What are your other CD's that you're talking about?
