Need opinions on replacing my equipment

Thread Starter
Ok needless to say this is my first Intel rig I've ever purchased at such a price and my very first OC'ing project (That being said I would like to thank the OCN community for their knowledge and helpful guidance )

Anyway I've come to find some issues and I'll just kind of list 'em as I go:

1.) I bought an MSI P6N Motherboard and I have severe Vdroop, like if I hit a certain bracket at say 1.40Vcore it'll Droop all the way down to 1.216Vcore which I think is pretty bad

2.) I bought some crap OCZ "Gamer Xtreme" memory primarily because I didn't understand timings and memory voltage. The specs are 5-5-5-12 at 2.0 ... However if I let the system use AUTO on the DRAM configuration it picks 5-5-5-14 for some ungodly reason and crashes at 2.0. That being said I have some pretty nasty RAM

3.) My E6400 C2D stepping is:

Q704A34

2007 week 4 series A

And from what I've found out on this no one at OCN has a E6400 with this stepping so now I'm completely S.O.L on guidance for overclocking this sexy beast.

So now I'm considering maybe I should buy some new RAM a new MOBO and maybe a E6600 now that I understand OC'ing or maybe just the RAM and wait and see what awesome new technology comes out.

I know for a fact on the RAM you want ones with D9 Microns on it so I've spec'd out a 2GB kit of Crucial Bastilix or G.Skill HZ for my machine.

In terms of motherboards though I'm not sure, I have an eVGA 8800GTX and they seem pretty awesome so maybe get a 680i board from them?

What do you guys think? Should I just suck it up and wait a few months to see if DDR3 promises anything new? Maybe a new chipset like nForce 7 series?

Thanks in advance!!

regarding your current mobo, check MSI website for an BIOS update. Anywho I don't think that you need to buy any new parts. OCZ is one of the best memory makers out there Just make sure that you have good cooling system for your PC. You might as well water cool it & then over clock it & find out that it would be better than an E6700 system.

Good things comes to those who wait.

Good Luck

Is CPU-Z reporting the droop? If so, thats a CPU-Z problem, and the voltage is probly much closer to the BIOS set.
