Your on the right track there. The processor will be very limiting though. With the price drops coming up in July, going with a C2D would produce quite a bit more for the money you spend. It may be a little more expensive, but on a folding rig, the last thing you want to go bottom of the barrel on is the processor. Also, no need to for the 3 CD-Roms, if you have a spare one, or can borrow one from another rig. Just use it to load your folding rigs, and then you should not have much need for it after that.

If you need video cards, go with cheap PCI cards.

You have the right idea though.

Ya listen to knitelife, if you're talking folding it's all about the cpu power. You could have 5 rigs with budget cpu's wasting all that power, and then one overclocked Core2 quad rig would smoke them all in point production. As of right now there is nothing better than an overclock C2D or it's quad big brother.

AMD has some good cpu's, and at stock speeds some of them can come close to rivaling say an E6600, when also at stock speeds. But those AMD top cpu's will not usually OC much, as they are running already somewhat close to the core's top-end capabilities, generally speaking. Not alot of headroom. C2D's on the other hand, overclock like crazy, and have an insane amount of headroom. Bringing even a low end 1.8ghz C2D to over 3ghz is usually quite easy, assuming your mobo and ram are up to the fsb task.

So think about this before you start buying anything. For a folding rig/s, concentrate on raw cpu power. Better to have 2 rigs pumping out so many points per day, than to have 4 lesser rigs, doing the same amount right? Less power and much less hardware to buy .
