P5N32-E SLI Troubles

Thread Starter
Here is the issue I am having with this MB.

I can post up to FSB 1540-1560 (390mhz) no problem using the settings Rolibar recommends. When attempting to go past 1560 my system freezes during the windows splash screen and if I am lucky on the windows desktop.

Upon a warm reboot it will typically freeze during the post process ( I get to see what the CPU is clocked at) If it does post and I enter Bios it freezes after 5 seconds. I need to unplug, replug and then I can change Bios settings.

I have run memtest 1.7 at the FSB 1540 at mem Vcore of 2.1 unlinked for 7 hours no errors using the standard test.

I have used the following settings to try and boot into windows:

FSB 1600
Vcore 1.45 to 1.50
Mem 2.1 (memory is unlinked at DDR2 800)
1.2 HT 1.35, 1.4, 1.45 and auto
NB 1.35, 1.4 to 1.6 and auto
SB 1.5, 1.55, 1.6 and auto
VTT 1.55

I am at wits end here. I believe that the MB is just plain bad. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Magi

Have you tried 1.6v CPU vCore? Don't worry, setting 1.6v means you'lll get about 1.55v after the vDroop. I'm guessing that's something else that might be happening with the settings you've tried so far. You should also try raiseing the NorthBridge to 1.4v, though the SouthBridge should be fine at 1.55v.

You sure you follow all the settings in the guide? And you update to the 1101 or 1102 bios?

alexisd,

I have all spread spectrums disabled and all cpu excesses disabled. I have upgraded to bios 1102 by making sure that I first returned everything to a stock setting then flash Bios using ezflash.

I have printed the instructions that Robilar provided to the forum and followed them. But I will recheck and see if I have missed a setting.

@ t4ct1c47, I am using everest 4.00.976 and that is reporting a max drop of 0.04 on the Vcore. Standard reporting it is 0.02 on idle and low usage from what is set in Bios.

Thank you to all for your feedback! This board is being a tough nut to crack.

To all,

I decided to take apart everything and put it back together. Found out I put myself in competition for a Darwin award in system building.

The TT Spirit I put on my Northbridge for some reason had plastic still on it when I put the O-ring on the bottom.
After carefully scrapping away melted plastic and leftover AS5 I put new paste down and reseated the heatsink.

Go figure it works now. I will be doing some orthos testing tonight, so far it has run 2hr at 3.2ghz at load temp of 49 on 1.42 Vcore. Running a bit hot as the room it is in is a balmy 83F.

My heartfelt thanks for the assistance all of you lent to me. Sorry it ended up being a Homer Simpson D'Oh moment. I will post some pics on the P5N32-E thread by the weekend and let you know how the OC'ing is doing.

Thanks,
Magi

Hi Robilar,

I am running at stock 8. Now that I found I am my own worse enemy I can't wait to see what this board can really do.
