I play video games to relax from my busy self-imposed study schedule. Video games allowed me to take 5 AP exams my senior year, and 3 my junior year and get 5's on EVERY single one of them. I study, then play video games, test retention (and if you can retain info after CSS then you're good ) and feel relaxed as well as gain knowledge. While i game the info i studied just prior to sinks in and then i repeat the process.

heh i remember the 12 hour sessions and stuff i used to put in during holidays when i was in school. back then it was 56k and ISDN which, in the UK, often meant ISPs that cut you off after 2 or 3 hours. the amount of time limits i hit and then instantly reconnected is funny looking back. even in 2005 when i was at uni i must have been averaging 2 or 3 hours a night some weeks.

now i've got a job and stuff i usually cant be bothered, i've also got a moderately improved social life. maybe play 3 or 4 hours a week, mostly at weekends now. cant say i get withdrawal or sit about wanting to play games but i don't think i'd be able just to stop playing entirely because it's good fun really. does that make me a loser addict?

I work 46 hours a week easy(for the summer winter is school) sometimes more i have a gf who i love more then ever and i never pass up going out with my friends (unless my gf is in one of those moods). And i maintain a 3.8 gpa in at college in economics. I also find time to play video games i enjoy so much (unfotunately none at the moment).
SO why should i give them up. I think if you grow tired of them then stop, if it effects your social life then learn to manage your time. Pretty much if you have a good head on your shoulders you can manage your time with a little perserverence(sp sry) and im sure everyone here can. I think its as simple as that, there is no reason to give up gameing unless it doesnt entertain you, just moderate if its affecting your social life.
EDIT: oh i also read as well harry potter and some other stuff lol

well you were an addict and you broke the addiction. i love playing video games but thanks to my wonderful parents i was able to learn self control. i have a girlfriend my grades are excellent (b+ to the A's) i only play a totoal of about 5 hours of video games every week combined. not bad. i enjoy myself and i have other things to do like run a youth group at my church. work at a store and so on.

so it depends on how you mange your life. you seem to have not been able to manage your life very well. its all about self control, you will eventually play a video game once or twice in your life for enjoyment but it will be in self control.

Actually, in Ireland, crack is good
And computer-gaming is infact a form of crack in that sense!
They tend to spell it Craic now though.
