Worst Video card you have ever owned? - Page 32

For me it was a Visiontek X1300 XGE (Xtreme Gamers Edition), what a load of crap haha. The card was able to play the games at that time, however it did so with a very noisy fan, whose bearings started making noise within a few months. I had no idea what I was buying when I bought it, as I was a newb at the time, I had actually tried to buy a used X1600 XT, but it didnt run in my system. At any rate, it was a huge bottleneck and was upgraded to a much more powerful at the time 8800GT.

Needless to say, through my experiences, and those of my close friends, I will never buy a Visiontek product again. Visiontek's designs are cheap, and lackluster IMO, had I known that I was buying an inferior product when I purchased it, I could have saved myself the money.

Granted, the performance of the X1300 GPU has nothing to do with Visiontek, however, their PCB and cooler does, which were the main gripes for me.

XFX 5850 or MSI GTX 570.... Not sure which one was the worst.

The XFX had a cheap PCB that was flimsy, the cooler rattled because it was made out of cheap plastic.. Died and RMA'd twice. Sold it when I got it back after the 3rd RMA

MSI GTX 570 was just really really loud and ran very hot. Never had any performance issues with it

5500FX. Even though at the time I thought it was awesome, because I was using Intel integrated before.

My current GTX 580 from Zotac, the Amp edition cards.

OK let me start.

First it involved a bios that was causing it to crash in nearly every game every 30 minutes or so. So, it literally took me over 4 months of e-mail, starting RMA's, calling Zotac and seeing other people on their forum having the same issue and joining in on the discussion...I finally get the bios...and guess what? It was from a forum moderator, someone who just post on the forum in their spare time and managed to within a few minutes of messaging give me the bios I need.

Someone who doesn't even work for Zotac did in a few minutes what this company couldn't do in 4 months. Let that soak in for a few minutes.

Then let's see what's happening THIS WEEK.

I came back Sunday this week and all of a sudden I couldn't play my games properly and I noticed my card was running about 5-10c hotter than usual, reaching temps that it normally wouldn't get. It's not revving up to 3D speed and I went back to drivers that were up to 8 months old.

I'm tired of this thing and I even went as far to chew out Zotac for this...especially after I found out their 580 amp edition cards are just 570 chips that are binned a tiny bit better than the rest.

Matrox Parhelia 256mb. bought it to replace FX5200 before I knew anything about graphics cards. 256 is double 128, I'll take it!
