my worst experience with a video card? Probably my Radeon 5970, but then again Iv only went though like 5 video cards. Just occasionally my 5970 would downclock one of its GPU's to 400/900 to be stupid or something. other than that I havent had any problems. My Asus 8400GS Silent, Perfect little card to run my older system that my dad uses to email and stuff. My Quadro NVS 285, Great little card for its purpose, dual displays, great for basic multi tasking on my Dell workstation, They were both passive cards ran a little hot but never gave me problems
Then my first mainstream card was the Radeon HD 4670 1GB from Sapphire, Wonderful card, my favorite of the bunch. Pretty decent little overclocker, Ran nice and cool NEVER went over 55.C and Ran pretty much anything i threw at it at the time with my older monitor. Then my Radeon HD 5830 Its been a reliable card, never busts, cool and quiet, no driver issues... my only problem was the fact that there is a BIOS lock on how far you can actually overclock the card. it easily hit that limit, and I could have pushed it WAY further. Now my 5970, its long... (not much of a problem) Its hot... like REALLY hot.. 98.C load, Its not too loud, like its bearable, but it is audible. and obviously when running crossfire X there are always driver issues. Next time around im going with Nvidia to see what they are like. Because I most likely am going to go multi GPU at some point.
