ey guys,

Not sure if its the right forum but ill give it a go. I just got a new computer the other day and I was wondering if I could get some base values for overclocking. I dont want to ruin my CPU so maybe for the first while start of with some lower values? Not sure, but post what you think is correct.

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 (http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=19802)

RAM: Kingston 2GB Value (http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=23471)

Case: Antec 900

GFX: 8600 GT 256MB (http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=23822)

MOBO: Gigabyte DS3P (http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=23967)

PSU: OCZ GAMEXSTREAM 700W(http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/13...READY_PSU.aspx)

Thanks a lot guys!

Read his post, he's bought these parts already.

Stock FSB is 266mhz, this means your RAM will start off at 266mhz - double that as its DDR(2) and that gives you the RAM rating which you see on the product page (533mhz)

Your RAM is rated to 667mhz divided by 2 = 333mhz

Thats easily acheivable with a E6600, and an FSB of 333mhz would give you a speed of around 3ghz as the E6600 has a multiplier of 9 - mutliplier times FSB = actual speed.

So, I would aim for 333mhz FSB with the RAM running at the same speed as the FSB - put the volts up one level and go for 300mhz FSB (put the FSB up in 10mhz or 5mhz stages) and each time check stability for an hour or two with Orthos - this stresses the CPU. Slowly build up to 333mhz FSB, you may have to put the voltage up another notch to 2 notches above stock.

Sorry if I've confused you (I think I rambled and used lots of brackets) so if you have any questions please ask away

ey guys,

nice fast replies

Thing is, I have actually already bought these parts (thanks posser) and they are sitting right next to me, its too late in the evening to start assembling now so I might do it tomorrow.

The whole idea of this build was to get rid of my heap of junk at the moment and slowly upgrade this fella, the first thing being new RAM once I get more cash.

But thanks so much posser I'll give it a whirl. Once I get new RAM I wont hesistate to PM you or repost on here!

If anyone else has anymore suggestions/comments feel free to post.

I don't know why you guys all say he needs new RAM

Its 667mhz, it'll be fine to 333mhz FSB 1:1 which is going to be getting near the top of his limit stably day to day.

If he wants to go higher he can then just put it on a divider - my first set of RAM was DDR400 which went to 208mhz stably; think that stopped me? Dividers are lifesavers!
