I'll think about this one

Its not that I'm hurting for $15 its more the principle of building a budget machine. If I upped every hardware piece by 25 dollars then it starts to add up.

The way I see it is: 6600gt $30AR or 7600GS $64AR

I vote for the 7600GS. I have one lying around at home to go in my bro's pc. I was able to run FEAR and Unreal tournament at maximum settings. YES, maximum settings. but odds are the load probably went mostly to the cpu, who knows....

Its a good card for what your paying, but if can can afford a little extra get a 7600 GS or 8500GT
post #16 of 24
$30 is really good for that 6600GT. I've had one and they are surprisingly good performers. It would also play FEAR and UT2004 on max detail and still push a decent framerate. Plus, they overclock pretty well.

The 7600GS is a better card if you're willing to spend the money.

With the 7300GT, you might as well get the 6600GT. Both are about the same, and the DDR3 RAM on the 6600 will do alot better for you in games. The DDR3 version of the 7300GT would fix that, but for that price, you might as well get the 7600GS.

Yeh it snowballs quickly. Thats why I've narrowed it to those 2 price points and performance. I'm probably leaning towards the 6600gt and will buy something nicer when/if I need more performance. I haven't gamed on my computer in about 3.5 years so chances are I'm not going to pick it up again anytime soon. But if I did it would be WoW. I used to be an EQ addict back in the day.

not to rain on your parade but that card lacks sevral features that modern games even need to function.

i would just get something with ddr3. they run well in games. the 6600gt from TD has ddr3 and its cheap so thats my vote. unless you want to play new games, that would do fine with the older games such as cs 1.6 and source in medium settings. for the new games, i would suggest above 7600gt.
