Windows XP Won't Start!

Thread Starter
Luckily I have Ubuntu...

When I load the XP partition in GRUB, the windows logo comes up with the loading bar, then stops for a second, and then restarts.

I'm pretty knowledgeable with Windows and I built my computer, but I have NO idea what to do here. Safe mode won't even load.

Please help!

Yeah, the reason I'm asking is so I can fix it without reinstalling and losing my files. I already know I can reinstall...

You can just reinstall without formatting, and keep your files. Just make sure you use a differant user name, and all your my document stuff will be in the documents in settings folder/username still. You will have to reinstall most applications to use them, but all the saves from them will physically be on your hard drive and all that (you may want to copy those folders before reinstalling the program just in case it overwrites them).

Ok, how do I run the Windows Repair Utility?

Also, I'm concerned more with my game saves (not in My Documents) than my office files and stuff. So, is there a way to keep more than My Docs if I reinstall?

Could also try restoring to last known workings settings. That helped me out more than a few times.

If you mean choose the option that says "Start with last working configuration" I tried that. Thanks though

Pretty sure that there is more than 1 way to do it, but probably the best way is to boot off the windows CD, follow the steps for if you were going to reinstall, and the n you will get a prompt asking if you want to press "R" to reinstall every file in the windows registry, or delete everything on the drive

press "R"
