However, what the SPECint_rate and SPECfp_rate benchmarks don't show is the ability to handle process-to-process throughput rates. Kanter highlights this to DailyTech, stating, "For stuff like web serving, application serving, I think Barcelona will kinda be a mixed bag, won't be a real home run." He clarifies this by emphasizing many of the K10 changes have possible drawbacks, including the split power-plane.

"The split power-plane, while saving power, has tendencies to make moving data between them a little awkward." Kanter continues, "It's a subtle thing, but in the end it will all depend on latency."
Looks like the Opteron's will be rather uniumpressing for home pc's, the archictecture is optimized for server environments.

so basically they built the ultimate folding chip that really wont be that great for real world computing like games, websurfing, etc.

yep. I want to see some more realistic benchies also.

Plus, this is the ultra high-end CPUs they're comparing here.. all these chips are in excess of $1,000.... some by quite a margin.

I want to see the performance of the more affordable CPUs... What does it mean for us! These are the server flavors, and although nice, not many of us will get these.

Again, those benchmarks have no relevance with anything i do on my pc. they're comparing with xeon so it looks like a server cpu.

to me, they're just carefully choosing the benchmarks to make it look good, if it was actually better they'd show us a 3dmark06 cpu bench compared to the x6800(x6850)
