Barcelona "Will wipe the floor with Intel for HPC computing". - Page 3

I'm an AMD fanboy, and yes, I'm sure Barcelona will clean Kentsfield's ass, but a search for the word "Penryn" goes straight to the responses on that page.

They didn't even mention Penryn in their comparison with Intel

intel needs to come out with Penryn, then sit back, have a glass of wine or two, and let AMD come out with its "competition"

Exactly, these processors seem perfectly suited for single app servers. But for the everday home PC user, I don't think they see will any significant increase of Core 2 Duo's.

To the comment that these are server only processors, yes, that is somewhat true. But a good portion of members on this site are technically running "server" cpu's.

With all the Xeon 3xxx/2xxx and Opty 165/170's running around on this site, I think it's fair to say that server cpu's still make it into home pc's.

Oh... It sounds like hes saying AMD is acting like the Xeon is a server CPU, because of that missing comma between Xeon & so

AMD plans to release 8 core cpu the same time as intel does. These CPU aren't meant to take out Penryn, future 8 core chips are!

I'm sure Barcelona will beat Kentsfield too, but again, that's not its competition. Kentsfield's competition is the Agena core CPU. But that doesn't make a huge difference because if they go the same route they did with k8, then the opteron variants should be almost identical to the consumer desktop CPUs.

The Barcelona cores are the server chips, and thus the competitor of the Clovertown. That's what all the benchmarks are compared with (Xeon is clovertown core).

The Kuma core will be the new dual core Phenom's base, while indeed the Agena core is the new quad core Phenom's base, and (probably somewhat modified) for the FX series. Budapest is the core for the AM2/AM2+ Opterons while Barcelona is the core for the socket 1207 Opterons.

Still with me?
