Company of Heroes (DX9 vs DX10) - Page 2

wow the muzzle flash on the ground and sandbags looks alot better than the dx9 on the left.

This is not a ground up dx10 game so I still give DX10 a good chance.

the grass looks much better aswel. Can someone explain to me why they cant make grass look that good in dx9? I thought dx10 was just better shaders.

I'm not seeing any better textures. It appears to just be better lighting and shadows. Looks nicer, but I don't know that it's all that big a deal, unless it can provide that at the same performance levels as without in DX9.

well this is... dissapointing? Everything they've done there is perfectly capable to do in dx9....?

Just remember this was made as a DX9 game. To move everything over to DX10 would cost quite a lot of money, which is really not worth doing to a game that has already been released.

actually no. i guarentee you it cost them next to nothing. Sure they still have to pay their employees their wages. But they wouldnt have to pay any extra on top of what they are already spending. 99% of moving over to dx10 is just programming.

Unless they use slave labor, that programming was not free. DX10 is completely different than DX9 programming in almost every respect. Re-coding a game with a brand-new rendering engine will cost the company in training employees in DX10, and re-developing game functions.

well if you read what i have said, i mentioned they still have to pay their employees wages, obviously. And they dont pay extra for them to learn dx10. Its not even that different from dx9. If they cant do it, why do they have the job? Professional programmers pick things up incredibly fast.

By the looks of the comparison shots aswell, it doesnt even look like an entire engine rebuild. it looks to be the same base engine that the dx9 uses just with some more functions added.

If the wages that our company pays to our programmers, and their schedules are anything to go by... then it would certainly cost a lot, I've never seen any job that is so demanding on timelines and deadlines lol... i'm glad i'm just server support lol. <-- Off topic lol

--> Back on topic, I think that the way graphics are now... every extra bit of lighing, detail etc is certainly a bonus on top of what is already (dx9) very good quality. And If the above comparison (originally dx9) is anything to go by... a game that is designed totally on dx10 should look amazing. And worth the £170(ish) for a dx10 card.
