How do i keep it at x16? Meh OC'ing ftl..

I know there's another thread similar to this, but it hasnt helped me at all.

So whenever i overclock to like ~3GHz, my PCI-E x16 link bandwidth goes down from x16 to x1:***: I can tell because cpu-z reports it when i click on the Mainboard tab, and i get hella bad FPS (14FPS.. goodgame?)

I've heard that i have to raise the SB voltage to 1.6v but it hasnt helped. Ive even tried 1.7volts on the SB, slowly overclocking up, and it'll still slow down the PCI-E bus when OC'd My NB is at 1.55v, i have leet cooling on it so i'm not worried. I have also applied some As5 on the SB core.

The PCI-Express slot is at 100MHz, and the PCI slot(s) at 33.33MHz (reccomened by lots of ASUS P965 owners IRL and on the forums).

How do i KEEP the PCI-E bus at x16 when overclocking? bleh

I'd RMA the board, or get a totally new model.

Are you running the latest bios?

Have you tried slowly working the PCI-Express up? I think someone went to 103 or 105 and fixed it, without stablity issues. My old Evga 680 AR did this if I put my NB to 1.5v

*** im not RMA'ing it. BIOS are 0910, but i dont see the benefit of flashing, because the asus page doesnt show any fixes for this problem.

Sucks dont it, I RMA'd the board and got my XBX2, I've been happy ever since.

Actually, 2 days later, my p5b refused to boot with more thasn 1GB of RAM. Asus FTL

Edit***Scroll threw that thread to find my fix, basically pump up the frequency, but i did not feel safe doing that.

LOL...i hope you are not serious. if so, learn about motherboards before posting to 'help' people. He might have followed your advice instead of actually fixing the problem.....idk htf you came to the conclusion he had to RMA it

we are not macppl who throw away the mac to upgrade or tweak...

ANYWAY it should be a 5min fix.

up the NB/SB voltage.

if it gets hot put an 80mm fan across it

if you dont have an 80mm fan get one for $3-4

I'm NOT RMA'ing anything! Nothing is broken, lots of other P5B owners have the same issue RMA = LOSE!

If you read his post he already tried upping the voltages of NB/SB...

If its a known issue on the board, i'd just sell it and get a different board.

This happened to me before, all I did was set the PCI-E slot frequency to auto.
