Just to chime in on the temperature disparity between two cores that you're observing: That's perfectly normal behavior for AMD dual-core CPUs. It's quite rare for these chips to have exactly the same temperature reading on both cores (I've only ever seen it once, on a rig I built for a customer). I've observed differences of up to 13 degrees C between the cores on a few chips, so the 8 degree C delta you've observed isn't something I'd worry about.

Why is there such a delta? I can't explain it. But I do know that it doesn't seem to affect the CPU's operation at all.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope this helps!

When I was in a different thread another user recommended putting a BB size drop of thermal compound on the processor, and then seating heatsink on top of it. He said that would equally distribute the thermal compound. I tried this and when i had to take the heatsink off I noticed he was correct. It looked evenly coated. What do you mean by twisting? Twist the heatsink? I am confused...again. Thank you for helping though.

Some users recommend a very slight (1 to 3 degree) twist while mounting the heatsink onto the CPU, to spread the TIM a bit. However, this may not always be possible if the heatsink base fills up the CPU socket area and doesn't leave room within the bounds of the heatsink retention module.

For example, the stock AMD HSF's base is an almost exact fit inside the retention module; it's impossible to twist it. Another example would be the Thermalright XP-90s; their retention mechanisms make it difficult to make that recommended twisting action.

Don't worry if you don't do the twist.
