Tell me more about the influence of magnetic fields and their effect on rf homogeneity (i.e. fsb freqs.)

The reason I ask is because I have an oc'd pc in the lab ~10 feet away from an 11.2 tesla superconducting magnet and it has never showed any ill effects. The stray field (5 gauss line) is well beyond 10 feet so I would think the pc would be subject to magnetic field influences.

We use lots of different RF frequencies to probe different chemical bonds, and they seem to be be very happy at the center of field within the magnet.

I assume you have a metal case around your PC? If so, it acts as a Faraday cage to protect your PC. If you used your PC in an benchtest setup, I would say that your overclock would be affected.

Nope, cheapo plastic case. P4 cedarmill 3.6 oc'd to 4.4 24/7 for ~ a year now. Used primarily for molecular modeling. Numerous other unix boxes in plastic pizza boxes also cranking away. All's good.

Interesting.... especially since it is an older machine as well. Move it closer to the coils?

I can do that, just don't want it to get seized.. There's some magnetic material in there.

The EMI Electro magnetic interference caused by RF signals and magnetic waves, will result in a shorter lifespan of the system components.

Don't know exactly how (come/much/fast), but you won't notice it immediately Let's say in a few years is more closer to it.

EDIT: I Had a subwoofer under my desk next to my pc case (2x 12inch kickass woofers) and my harddisk gave op on me in a matter of months
