8600GT/7600GT and World Of Warcraft Performance

Hey guys,

Building a new PC as you can see in my sig, this summer...I'm planning on either putting in a 7600GT or 8600GT, which would be the better performance?

And also, what kind of res/fps should I expect with the rig in my sig?

Thanks In Advance,

Serenity

8600GT for sure. The 8600GT is a DirectX 10 card which means you are future proof. Also the 8600GTs performance is equal to an 7900GS which blows that 7600GT in the dust.

The 8600GT should be able to play WoW on max settings at an resolution.. of.. not really sure about the resolution but I'm sure it can handle whatever you throw at it. Don't get me wrong the 7600GT was a good DirectX 9 card. It was an mid-ranged card but in this case 8600GT wins.

Go with the 8600GTS it is fast and you wont have any problem playing newer games.

the 8600gt is a little faster than the 7600gt but I don,t think that it,s faster than the 7900gs .

I think I seen benchmarks with an OCed 8600GT out preforming a 7900GS...not 100% on than now, so don't quote me

Is there anyone who has either of these cards and WoW?

I have a 7600GT on my HTPC rig and I have WoW installed there as a backup. Max everything at 1024x768 and runs without a hitch.

Yeah an overclocked to the max 8600 beating a 7900gs by a tiny bit maybe... nothing to brag about for sure.

The 7600 should be cheaper and not sacrifice much performance. I wouldn't care about directx10, the 8600 really isn't good enough performance wise to care about that sort of thing.

With a 7600GT you should see 10FPS minimum and 50FPS average on it's highest setting (1280x1024) A 8600GT performs similar to a 7900GT in DX9. My last card was a 7900GT and it does 20FPS minimum and 80FPS average at it's highest setting (1280x1024)

The 7600GT does perform very well with 2GB of RAM and settings at AAx2 with Vertex Animation Shaders turned on and Level of Detail checked off. That is if price is an issue.

This is all at stock of course.

Yes, I play too much World of Warcraft. The 7600GT FPS is based off or performance on a E6300 with 2GB of DDR2 800 running at 2.4Ghz

Cool thanks...I plan on playing with an E4300 at about at least 2.8GHz, 2GB PC6400 800MHz and an 8600GT, so I should be good to go? Is the game mainly CPU or GPU??
