I haven't built a computer from scratch since about 1997 so this should be fun. The purpose is websurfer, office, and media downloader and editor. It also streams video to my xbox (old one, hacked).

MB: TForce 550 $69.99 AR +S/H
CPU: X2 3600+ OEM $59.99
Case/PSU: Antec Sonata II $50AR
Ram: Crucial Ballistix 800mhz $74.99 AR/GCO
Cooler: Arctic Freezer 64 $20.44
GPU: 6600 GT $29.99 AR +S/H
DVD: Lite On w/ lightscribe Retail $39.99
HD: Seagate 320gb $79.99
Monitor: Acer 19" WS $179.99

Total ~ $605
I think that's it. Comments?

It's to early for me to do an in depth analysis of your build heh.

But i will say this.

Good choice on the hard drive.
Do you need an aftermarket cooler? Couldn't you just buy the retail 3600?
Do you need a dedicated GPU? I'm guessing since you are going with a 6600GT this would only be to run vista smoothly?

Looks good.

Well thought out choices, the Freezer 64 is nice and cheap and will help it stay quiet and cool.

Nothing to change really

i have 6600 and it runs vista smoothly, but my experience level is at 3.5 and thats because my video card is the lowest scoring item @ 3.5 other wise i'd be above a 5.x

The dedicated GPU is mostly for vista and because I wanted to go with the tforce 550. Plus its $30. The aftermarket cooler is $10 more than the stocker and I plan on doing a mild overclock. The machine this rig is replacing I've strung along for about 5.5 years, so I like to have a little bit of future usability based on my track record.

yeh that's a good deal but it wasn't available in my area (chicago). I think the ACER is better quality too. Whether its $45 dollars better, maybe not.

edit: after taxes are included more like 30 like you said
