Yeah I use the AMD optimizer. But setting affinity to one CPU upped my time by about 1 second.

Yeah, but your fx is at 3.0GHz--that pretty much will kill any X2 CPU as far as clockspeed calc's go. And superpi is not multi-threaded, so the number of cores doesn't matter unless you're doing intensive tasks in the background during a superpi calc. 12sec's is an awesome time--wish I could get that one mine--I'm stuck at 15.5

I'm thinking that it could have been a fluke--maybe. Windows should task in realtime what tasks to assign to each core--if it's lagging a bit while you've started the superpi calculation, then it could be using the core that's also cranking the numbers--could be a feasible situation.

I'm curious--run it on CPU0 and then again on CPU1--are there reproducible differences of 1sec, or is it pretty much the same?

31.234 seconds on CPU0 and reatime.
31.016 seconds on CPU1 and realtime.
31.435 seconds on both CPUs and realtime.

31.078 seconds with no change - both CPUs and normal task priority

So that's weird...

Yeah, I think it was a fluke--all about how windows manages the assignments of tasks to cores. But overall (with many repeated calculations), the average time should pretty much remain constant if you have it assigned to one specific core, or select both in task manager.

I would think you need to run these tests at least 20 times, to get an average..otherwise, there are too many variables to go off of 3 or 4 results. Those times are pretty close, I think after you could get an average, the margin would be much smaller. Still interesting results though.
