dual monitor trouble

Thread Starter
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card with two ports for dual monitors. When I turn the computer on, they will both flicker sort of, then both display the same screen. Then the main one will show the login screen...so I log in. Now I can only get the image to display on the main screen. The other one just flickers between different shades of black. Also, it is not sleeping...as it would do if I just turned the monitor on and not the computer.

They used to just display the same exact image.

I have done everything I can think of. Any body have any suggestions?

i had that same problem with my pci ati 9250

i never fixed it permanetly, but if you want it to work you jsut have to change a setting on the secondary monitor every time you turn it on.

for instance

i just right clocked on the ati control panel icon on the bottom rght and disabled the secondary monitor, then enabled it again, then it worked flawlessly, only while the computer is on.

also i realised any change in the setting would temporarily fix it, i also did rotate monitor 90 degrees, then the monitor started working right, so i rotated it back to 0 degrees?

follow me here?

well i never found a permanent fix, but if you find one, let me know, this is all i have for now

ps - i already tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. i also tried the newest drivers on the ati site and the drivers that came with the card. none fixed the problem.

Both of you should download Ultramon. It's a must have if you own 2 or more monitors. www.realtimesoft.com You can thank me later.

Ok I tried fooling around with the settings of the second monitor, rotating it and such, nothing worked. Although when I did disable it, it would go to sleep.

I downloaded ultramon...pretty neat...useless for me now though!

If I unplug my second monitor, everything works fine. If I plug it back in, I get a blue stop screen before windows starts to load.

Really confusing...any more help would be really appreciated!

Thanks

Ah HA! I figured it out. OK, right click on desktop...go to settings. You have to disable the second monitor. Then, go to advanced. There should be two monitors and a tv and something else. Make sure the tv is disabled and the second monitor is enabled. Play around with it and you should be able to figure it out.

My whole problem was that the tv display was enabled. Anyway guys, thanks for the help!
