OC stable in XP, but not Vista?

Thread Starter
I have my 8800gts OC'd to 660/2020 right now, and when I ran the stability test in Vista, it crashed after 5m. It also kicks me out of games every 20m or so.

But in XP, my OC is rock stable and I can game all day.

Any idea of what can cause this?

vista is crap...?? just a guess....

no but really, it could be that vista is more taxing to your hardware than xp is...

Sounds like drivers to me. Have you tried different ones or re-instaling them?

Try something else.

Vista is a bit fragile atm unfortunately....i'm having problems myself.

Was this happening with other drivers?

Vista has problems with overclocking video cards..

I can't overclock mine at all I get spammed with errors.

Video Card Overclocking + Vista 64-bit = No Go.

It did the same thing with my old ones (the 158.43 I think) so I switched to the beta drivers

Vista has a thing called 'tilt bits' that's supposed to be used as a DRM protection feature. (Also known as bending you over a barrel and raping you) Basically it monitors all of the various hardware through out your system and if anything has any abnormal output, aberration or loss it'll immediately shut down the computer because you might be trying to install hardware stealthily to steal content. So, if you're overclocking and ONE check goes SLIGHTLY off... boom, it's done. This is what made me stop using Vista.

I'm installing vista later today... should I set my CPU back to its original clocks before installing it?
