The launch of music tracks free of digital locks on iTunes has been overshadowed by the discovery that they contain data about who bought them.

Useful news for people who may have or are going to buy DRM free music soon..

So, if its pirated they can trace who leaked it. Although re-encoding will probably solve this problem.

Yea but its AAC, and the DRM free AAC files are supposed to be really high quality. If you re-encode that, wouldn't you lose a pretty good chunk of quality?

Not if you re-encoded it into AAC of the same bitrate. Essentially just getting rid of the buyer info.

Well I dont see the problem. If you dont share the songs then you have nothing to worry about. Theyre your songs on your computer.
Very nice!

Bingo... it's just would-be pirates bitc*ing. The only time I'd
be pissed is if you paid for DRM free music and they prevented
you from burning them, which... well kind of defeats the purpose.

Doesn't tunebite strip the encoding just by re-encoding it... I don't have itunes nor an Ipod, speculation from my part.
