E6300 still warm, even with AC7 Pro

Ok I got my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro from Newegg today. I scraped the goop it came with, cleaned it nice, applied AS5, and booted. Loaded Windows, fired up CoreTemp, and it's telling me that I'm at 40c. Ran Orthos and after just 30 seconds it hit 63c. I have a 120mm fan (top of case) blowing down onto the AC7, a 120mm blowing in from the front of the case, and a rear 120mm for exhaust. I have my E6300 set at 2.7 GHz, multi of 6, vcore of 1.38, and the room temp is 26c.

Given that I went from idling at 45c down to 40, I know that this new cooler works, but I was hoping to drop into the 30s. Is my processor retarded or something? It just refuses to be cooled down. Hell I even had to lower my multi and settle for 2.7 GHz instead of 3.15 (not much of a noticeable difference to me), and even after that...

What am I doing wrong? Is it that this is probably one of the older C2Ds? Well here, let me know if it's an old one or not. This is what is written on the processor:

The stepping says it's a week 2 chip from 2007, so it's not an old chip.

At 1.38v I would probably get the same temps as you do, and I'm using an AC7 as well. The only difference is that 1.38v would put me at 3.4Ghz. Right now I'm running 1.30v vcore (3.2Ghz) and the temp is 50c load, at hot days 52c load.

It's summer time what do you expect? I normally get 28-33 idle now I get 36-38 idle. Summer sucks for overclockers.

26C room ambient will severely impact your temps with air cooling.

Sounds to me like your seeing temps about the way they should be.

My room is at 23.5C and my 6400 at 3.6 is idling at 38C ... just two degrees under yours; I'm using a modified scythe cooler.

Should my room ambient be up around 26C, then my idle temps would be more like 41C or so ...

Ok I got it to drop down to 38c idle. I dropped my vcore down to 1.31, and to my surprise, Windows actually booted. I didn't think it could run on this low of a vcore because when I had it set at 3.15 and a multi of 7 it wouldn't boot unless the vcore was way the hell up at 1.5125. Maybe there's some sort of hole in between 1.31 and 1.5? Dunno, but I'm going to try to OC again at 3.15 and a multi of 7 and see if having it at a vcore of 1.31 allows me to boot Windows.
