dual monitors, windows sucks?

Thread Starter
ok so i'm running a second monitor off my laptop. it is a 19" widescreen and its native resolution is 1440x900, which is not an option by windows standards apparently. is there any way i can force this resolution, or maybe but the black bars on my screen so it shows up as normal instead of widescreen, like they do on tvs. its really annoying having everything all stretched out.

It could be the laptop's graphics card just isn't able to perform widescreen resolutions. What laptop is it and what graphics card does it have?

Try getting the correct drivers for your monitor and video card. Also posting what monitor it is and your computer specification would help

the laptop is a dell lattitude d600, not a widescreen laptop. the lcd is acer 19" widescreen. when i look at the available resolutions, some of the ones listed are widescreen, but not the one that suits my monitor best

Try change the colours from 32bit to 16bit. Often on Integrated graphics cards you can't get over a certain resolution with 32bit colour.

Usually when you go the pannel to change the option of a second monitor there is a button that you press that should say: Aspect Ratio Options.

In there there is an option for Full Screen, maintaining the aspect ratio, or center desktop.

At least there is for mine

I've got a potential fix:

Put the refresh rate of the monitor right down to the lowest setting, like 50hz or something. Then look at the available resolutions again. You may be able to select 1440x900. Select it, then go back to the refresh rate settings and set it to the highest refresh rate (probably about 72hz)

It depends. Most times when you put the res up, those frequencies dissapear.
