My 8600 GT get some good FPS on F.E.A.R with everything on max at 1200x1000 and no Overclocking, i think it was 100% above 40.

Considering that the 8800's will probably have a difficult time maxing out DX10titles, the 8600's aren't worth the price.

A 256mb x1950PRO is about $70 cheaper in most instances, and is just as fast, if not faster than the 8600GTS.

Due to drivers though the 7600gt will get a higher FPS on most every game, over the 8600gts though.

And to answer your Q- The X1950XT would clean house with any 8600 card. Your comparing a 256bit card to a 128bit card...plus the ATi has got shader performance in the bag.

8600's are ghey!
I call you a moron, im an 8600 user, well ex user, its a great card and its fast as ****.

I chose the x1950pro 256mb over the 8600GT....and I'm very happy with my decision.

I score 4700 with everything at stock in 3dmark06, with Vista Ultimate.
im sorry at stock with an 8600GT, 2gb of DDR2 533, and an X2 3800 i get 5100

Get a X1900XT/XTX/X1950XT/XTX and it would blow that 8600 out of the water, different story against the 8800 obviously..

I'm saying the 8600 gt physically has 20 more then the 7600 gt and that its not the same card or a inferior card to the 7600

Call me what you want, either way, the 8600 is a poor choice for an upgrade if you have a 7800 or better. Who cares if its dx10 or not...1650x1080 is still sick on dx9.
