E6600 or Q6600?

Thread Starter
Been reading the forums here for a few months now, finally decided to post.

Planning on building a new computer at the end of the month (finally out of college and have a JOB!) and I've got a dilemma, my cousin, who works for Intel, recently told me he'd buy processors for me with his significant employee discount, bringing the Q6600 into my price range. I'd planned on building an E6600 machine and overclocking it. But now that I have this option open I can't decide. I know the E6600 is a better overclocker, but the Q6600 has more potential once better motherboards start coming out to support it.

Oh and this will be a gaming rig.

get the e6600 and use the money you save with his discount to get better quality ram or a higher end GPU or water cooling stuff or whatever else you need

Q6600. Since prices are dropping and you can get a employee discount, it's a deal

quad, in this world things get out of date fast, so if you don't want to kick yourself later, get the best you can afford now, plus as mentioned the price drop will be phenomenal
