Ps3 CryEngine 2 Game announced - Page 4

UUUUUUUmmmmmmmmmm.....................
Guys, I am a dev working on Obsidian Edge 2, and I can tell you for a fact we are all scratching our heads right now trying to figure out how our name got tied up with the PS3. We do appreciate the enthusiasm shown for our press release though, and you can find the full length one here

May OE2 Update

We are a PC only mod for Crysis, working with Crytek to showcase how amazing the Cry-Engine 2 is.

Feel free to check out our website for more info and our forums for any questions you might have about the mod, and look for many more press releases in the future.

Edit: And just to throw some fuel on the fire concerning graphics, many of the screen shots you are asking about were taken with an ATI card that is more than a few years old.

Since they are not associated with a publisher, this will not make its way to the PS3, it will be PC only.

2) The PS3 does not run at a much higher resolution than the 360. Both consoles are capable of 1080p, however, to save on resources, most games are rendered at 720p and upscaled to 1080p, or whichever resolution the viewer uses. Almost every single game out there runs at 720p.

3) Gears of War is already out, thats graphically impressive is it not? And then you have Mass Effect and Alan Wake lined up, to name a few. Sticking with DVD isnt going to place a limit on graphics, theres plenty of compression technologies that result in no or almost no loss in quality. Look at the attachment showing textures from .kkrieger, a 96KB game.

The Cell has nothing to do with running eye candy. It is all done with the GPU. The GPU determines how many FPS a game can get. I would have thought that you, having been here so long, would have known that. Thats why I, for example, can get away with a Pentium 4 and still run most games maxed out on my X1900XT. The Cell and the Xenon are more than sufficiently powerful, and neither will create any bottleneck on the GPU. I can assure you that no game runs anywhere near 120FPS on either console, unless it is last gen game, or a game with low detail.
With the power of Cell there is more room to render more detail without a huge performance hit. Yes the GPU has something to do with it but Cell makes a large difference also.

You being you I thought you would have known that !
