The Official Socket 754 Overclocker's Thread - Page 26

i'm in a lot of trouble right now. my socket 754 venice core used to be an awesome overclocker as far as stability goes . stock 2.0, overclocked to 2.4 with idle temps at 38, full load temps at 46c. since i moved though i've had nothing but trouble. first problem, was as soon as i boot and get into windows, when i checked it's temp it was 45 and rising. i bought some arctic ceramique and put it on, and it got the temps back to a working level but only on stock settings. it idles at 35c and full load at around 47c. but, if i overclock it back to what i had before, idles at 38, full load goes up to god knows what (i was watching a vid and it crashed, speedfan said the sensor for the cpu on the mobo was reading 52, but the core was at 70 o_O closed off everything and it cooled down to 42c, but any load would cause it to jump reall badly. i'm positive this isn't just because of a climate change (moved from nc to az, but the room temp is the same) i'm really worried that somehow the chip got damaged during shipping T_T

that's the thing, the mobo sensor for the cpu was idling at 38c and i don't even wanna know what the actual full load temp would be, but as soon as it got any load it would jump to 48+c. i did reset the heatsink with arctic ceramique, and i know it would be a few degrees warmer, but over 10c more than before is insane. i'm gonna re-do it again today and make sure i clean everything more thouroughly than normal

as of right now, the core idle is around 47c and it's full load is 52c. that's perfectly FINE and all, but once i up the voltage and the fsb, it gets insanly hot. the actual sensor on the motherboard is giving an idle temp of 35 and a full load temp of 42, which is 3 degrees cooler on both readings than my old overclock readings i'll just re-do it and post the results

I'm another s754 user, most of the details in the screen shot... Newark 3700+ not yet overclocked, on an MSI MS-7145 (RS480M), with 2x 512mb HyperX pc3200 TCCD 2-2-2-6... I'll post another screen shot after I do some OCing...

I'm assuming that you have checked airflow in the case and all other fans are up and working. So after you reseat the hsf make sure you're not putting too much t.i.m. on, that can have similar effects, and your hsf fan is working at full speed and it's all nice and clean.

I had one of my AC 64 Freezer Pro's fan not die but tremendously slow down and it was fine at stock but the second i tried anything else its temps just sky rocketed.Other than that unless your ambient temp changed dramatically, not sure what else it could be. Lets us know how it goes.

i was following arctic silvers directions exact. for the crappy case i have, i made it have good airflow by tying up all the extra cables into the extra drive bay and cutting the fan grills off. i decided to say screw arctic silvers directions and i used a credit card to spread the ceramique till i felt it was thin enough. idles at 38c full load at about 47/48c (from the onboard sensor) the die is about 49c idle, 59c full load. which is only off by a couple degrees due to the higher ambient temperatures. it should cool off a bit more too once the compound starts to cure

I am no longer a 754 overclocker as my mobo/cpu bit the dust(Im thinking mobo now). mouse was acting funny(wireless) so I shut down for a little while and when I restarted the lights came on but no one was home. after swaping out everything but the cpu and mobo I tried to make it give me a error beeep but no go ITS DEAD!

I cant be sure its the mobo tho SOOOOOOOOOOO no sense in beating a dead horse, I ordered a new c2d system I would have liked to wait for amds new cpus but they r too late and there is no future proofing right now with amd

strike me from the record!!

2.4ghz
240fsb
ram at 160mhz (i need a gig of ram, and 1 is 2700 the other is 3200)

it's prime95 stable for 24hours if i'm not mistaken. it's the best overclock i can get 100% stable. at 2.45ghz it's stable for 14 hours, and at 2.5 it won't boot unless it's under 38c at boot. i once got it to boot at 2.6ghz, but that was when it was winter and i left my window open (the computer would idle at 13c)\\

it's at 2.5ghz at 1.52v it's not very stable, but i forgot it at least could run somewhat (firefox crashes occasionally)

i'm giong to run it at 2.45 like i used to till i find a problem. before it had a problem with C&C 3 when too many units were on the screen, but at 2.4 it cleared up. i can't play any games anymore because my geforce6600 took a dump, and i'm using a radeon 9200 till i can save up for a geforce7950GT
