The Official Socket 754 Overclocker's Thread - Page 45

post #441 of 677
I've hit a snag, I can't get above 2ghz on a Sempron 1.8ghz 3000+ Palermo.

Here is my Info: (Stable 7 1/2 hours Prime95+ no errors or warnings)
CPU-Z:
Volt=1.424
Core: 1980.4mhz
Multi: 9x
Bus: 220mhz
HT: 660mhz (3x)

Mem:
Freq=180mhz
(dropped reference from 200 to 166mhz - I used to get Memory errors in memtest86 even before I started overclocking, once I dropped the frequency below 400 things like prime95 started to run without errors)

Basically when I put the Bus above 225mhz the system reboots it's self, I bumped the Voltage up to 1.456v and the system still rebooted it's self. Any advice on what to do? Higher Voltage?

Stock cooling, crappy case, I have CPU temp target at 40C, Idle it stays around 43C there, under load it goes up to max 50C running Prime95.

Whoa whoa whoa!!!! Slow down there. 3.75v on your CPU??? That's got to be read wrong or you're looking at the wrong voltage or something! It shouldn't be passing 1.6v!!!

HAHA your not clocking a 754 very far on a limit of 1.6v. Ive been running my 2600+ at 1.75 for 2 1/2 24/7 and has never missed a beat @ 2760 BT cooled

Lol...ok I stand corrected considering your temps are within reason. My 754 rig is at 1.55v and it gets pretty dang hot (and it's lapped). You must have some GREAT cooling to be reaching 1.75v...and you must be nuts to boot. I never pass 1.6v on older tech and 1.5v on newer stuff (939, 775 and newer). My point was though, he DEFINITELY shouldn't have 3.75v on his processor!!! That's enough to blow it up in a few minutes I'd think, lol. That was my only point there.

There is something wrong with that Sempy allright. Finished a overclock on the same processor a day or 2 ago and it went up to 2.2 Mhz with just pumping up the fsb. so on 1.450 volt you should reach 2.3 stable with no effort. just make sure your memory isn't faulty. 200 memory should run 210 ish with no problem. So try dropping your multiplier by one and start raising that FSB.

Sorry pioneer, I made a typo and forgot the 1.

It's running at 1.375v in the bios (and 1.424 in CPU-Z) which do I rely on.

I bumped it up to 1.4v in bios and it still wouldn't pass 225mhz bus.

The RAM gives me memtest86 errors even when running at 400mhz, however the system is stable in a full prime95 torture test running at 220mhz bus, 166mhz ram reference point, and a 3x HT multi

Pushing the bus to 230mhz would still be keeping the ram under 200mhz with the 166mhz reference point, and the HT would be around 700mhz so it wouldn't be pushed.

I was playing around alot earlier and with the Bus at 230mhz the CPU passed the Prime95 CPU test (average temp of 56-57C), however when I went to the 3rd Prime test that included the RAM it failed, so that means that the ram isn't stable even at 196mhz.

Should I put the vcore up to 1.4 or 1.425 in the bios, and put the RAM refference down to 133mhz and see how hight I can get the CPU stable and still have the temp below 60C? (Max for my CPU is 69C, but I don't really want to go over 60C)

This is just a thought from my own personal experience here. You may have found the max your board seems to want to hit for one....or for two, you could try to get your RAM right at 200MHz and force stock timings on it. First thing I would do is attempt a little more FSB out of it to reach that 200MHz RAM...and absolutely FORCE stock timings to it. That might possibly work...or you might've found your limit? I dunno, my 754 rig seems to be limited to 2.42GHz from 2.2GHz stock. But I also appear to have a poor overclocking chip (but a better 754 tweaker might get more from it, who knows). That's what I'd try anyway.

And no worries about the typo, lol. I just wanted to make sure you didn't type it correctly.....3.75v would kill a modern day CPU within minutes, lol.
