Thanks for the BUMP. Since it went to another page, I thought I'd make it easier and repost:

I would like to request some help on THIS THREAD related to my 3200+ Venice. As the thread says, I'm REALLY new to this so please be gentle.
Aww come-on guys. Just cause I'm a 0 rep, can't a guy get a break?
I guess not. Need to go looking for other threads to participate in to improve my rep and then come back.

Actually I did effectively ask. I'm so new I can barely spell overclock so I'm telling you in advance, while technically proficient, I'll probably need small steps.

As this is my first attempt to even consider doing this, please be gentle I've uploaded all of the tabs from CPU-Z as a start. I am using THIS board/CPU combo. According to MSI's site, THIS is the actual board.

I'm sure there will be additional information you will need to assist me in 1: determining if I can overclock and 2: how to do it and how much. This isn't a powerhouse computer. It has one job - monitor and collect data from my solar power system. But, I figured it would be a good one to experiment on to see if I can learn a bit about overclocking so if I want to overclock my gaming rig, I'll feel a bit more comfortable.

The only thing I've done so far is underclock (??) the RAM. I was instructed to do this to prevent it from being a bottleneck or point of failure while attempting to overclock the CPU. Don't know why, but, I did it.

Thanks as always for your assistance!!!!!

Hey, I'm just looking for a bit of advice on overclocking and weather my system can be pushed any more than it is? Thanks in advance

not sure how much further it'll go. I'm currently running the Newcastle 3200+ and after getting a CNPS7000 slapped on, i've finally gotten load temps of 56-57c (60-62c when my AC for whatever reason gets shut off by my sister and boils my room)
right now i'm running Prime 95 at 2.59ghz@1.776v so far it's been stable for 4 hours straight. the highest my temps got was 63c when my room got stupid hot.

Previously I had a stock X2 4400 heatpipe cooler, and the best I could pull stable was 2.47ghz@1.6v, and even then the thing would hit 65C at times.

I'm running 2x1gb sticks of OCZ Platinum ram at 185.3mhz 2T timing:2-3-2-5

well I decided to stop my prime a bit short at 4.5 hours, and bump up my FSB from 236 to 237 (2.607ghz) if it's prime stable, I'll be very very happy.

ShosMeister, what do your temperatures currently look like? iirc, on the venice cores, they weren't happy if you got over 50+ (wow, I just noticed this. your board is a S754 WITH PCI Express o_O)

so far my 2.6ghz overclock seems stable. temps aren't getting higher than about 58c. I think my previous problem was due to using 1T instead of 2T

so far my problem wasn't with the 1T timing. I upped the voltage to 2.9v, added an intake fan to help with both the CPU and RAM temps (they were getting toasty before) now the ram is hardly warm to the touch, and my cpu temps are very mild for this chip/vcore combo. prime stable so far for an hour. I was playing with using Clockgen to up my FSB after using RMClock to drop my multiplier to 10x, then overclocking my ram, but unless I slack the timings I can't get a very good clock out of them. With the current settings (1T 2-3-2-5) I'm able to get a superpi 1M time of 39.7xx seconds. I doubt I'd be able to get lower than that by overclocking my memory and slacking the timings.

I decided to play with it some more, and figured out why I wasn't getting a fast superpi 1M time. I had too much stuff running. I shut everything down, and did this (I also stepped up the overclock to 2.63ghz, not sure how stable it is though)
I'll bet I can get it to go quicker too on that 1M time.
