Alright, so i have been thinking about trying some true suicide runs to try and hit 4.0 ghz with the rig in my sig below (Tuniq, E6600, EVGA 680iSLI) and i was just wondering if i would instantly fry my CPU if i put the volts up to 1.7 ish and if there is any range involts in which i should stay away from.

i wouldn't try 1.7 without some decent WC

It wont be instant unless you have no heatsink/fan on it but it wont last long. Most people run that on phase change.

1.6v is the "normal" 24/7 voltage on phase.

I wouldn't push much more than that on a suicide air run. It'll probably be unstable far before that much voltage will help.

Are we talking just from heat? or is the voltage actualie going to hurt the CPU. I can hit 3.8 on 1.53 vcore with still pretty good temps (45 idel 64 load)

I'm just wondering if its the heat thats the problem or the Voltage itself.

64c load is already too high, you need to lower your OC.

A little of both i believe.
Part of the reason phase can run such high voltages for longer periods of time is because of how cold it is.
I think.

But yeah i wouldn't go above 1.6 without sub ambient cooling, even if it is just for benchmarks.

No, he doesn't. 64C is not "just fine" , but he won't be limiting the life of the CPU to just a couple of years at that temp. This ain't yo mama's Intel!
