P4 3.0GHz bottlenecking my 8800GTS ? - Page 3

Stop with the op cycle myth.

Unless you can prove it.

It is obviously bottlenecking.

If you think it isn't you must be having issues with white powder

I personally think that the idea of CPU --> GPU bottlenecking has been blown out of proportion. If you have a faster CPU, you will have a faster computer. Also, a faster GPU on a lesser CPU will still be faster than lesser GPUs on the same system.

I get 12k with a single 8800GTS and a Core 2 Duo. (card overclocked to 675 core / 2210 mem - CPU at 3.6GHz.)

With a single core CPU, he should see at least 7.5 - 8k in 3DMark06

Also, consider a Pentium D 805 and overclock that...

My system only scores 7572 and I know it's not a driver issue or anything like that.

Nah...maybe with a GTX. I borrowed a firends 8800GTS for a day, and with my old 3500+ at 2.45ghz, I scored around 5700.

3dmark06 is stupendously CPU dependent.

Well thats the TOTAL score.

WHats your GPU score?

It could just be that your CPU score is lowering your total score and not Bottlenecking as much as you think

ok, I think we can all conclude that he is, indeed, bottlenecking. But if I were him, I wouldn't be worried about the bottleneck near as much as to why my new 8800 GTS is scoring SO low. Honestly, my system is neck and neck with his, Sempron 64 754, DDR, and x1950 "GT"...come on. Something else is wrong.

Yeah it is, but thats the case with most synthetic benchmarks. I would try to run your system on real-world timedemos and see how it compares.

Benchmarks favor certain systems.
