....18 hours isn't that long, If you ran it at 83C for a year it'd be dead. If you are seriously running your processor at 83C, well.. wow, your gonna ruin it.
Well, I'll tell you the story. It was like 10:30 at night, had my computer apart trying to manage some cables, when i put it back together, and put it back in its proper place next to my desk. When I turned it on, everything seemed fine, started to fold, then went to bed. Got home from school the next day, and i opened up TAT and almost died. Shut my computer off ASAP and looked to see what was wrong. I must have let it hit the ground too hard, as the top 2 pins came loose on my BT, and was holding on, at a big slant, by the lower 2 pins.

So I ran my e6600 for 18ish hours at 83-85c basically without a HSF

I just read another thread that said TAT was developed for the core mobile procs and that it may not be accurate for all C2D's. I see you have the 100c T junction and I believe that TAT was intended to be used with the 85c T junction. I think the thread was by namelessMC. Ill try to find it.

Edit: Must not have been him, Ill keep looking. I think that coretemp is accurate though

Take it easy, your HS is just seated incorrectly. Tell us how you apply your AS5?

IE: How much, how applied, spreaded or not?

You have AS5 for thermal paste right?

Take off your heatsink, clean both bases the best you can, apply the AS5 (Use this guide: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm) and it should drop your temps dramatically if its mounted right. If it doesn't either its a faulty processor, or the heatsink is concave or something.. At stock settings you should be idling in the 30s on that processor, unless you have absolutely no case fans.

You are suppose to apply a very thin line from the top to the bottom for dual and quad cores.

I have to go for the night.

...................Yes... Your only suppose to put a very little..

If you don't have any more your going to have to buy some AS5.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007

This stuff is expensive and when you get it your going to have to apply it right. DON'T throw a ton on there. This little tube should allow for around 25 reseats.

Make sure you save this guide:
http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Follow the intel dual core steps. A very small line from the top of the processor to the bottom. There is a picture in the guide.

Lol. well theres your problem. I'm surprised its still working, it didnt smudge every where. I've reseated my e6600 many times, and reseated 2 8800's and I still have more than half a syringe left.

Your supposed to use like 1/50th of that amount, the size of a rice grain

You are going to have one big mess to clean up if you applied it all..
